Sunglasses Defined

Sunglasses or sun glasses are a form of protective eyewear with lenses that are colored, polarized or darkened. Sunglasses' primary purpose is to prevent bright sunlight from discomforting or damaging the eyes.

Sunglasses Styles and Purposes

Sunglasses could be used for a variety of reasons. Depending on the purpose we can separate sunglasses into different categories such as:
  • Mirrorshades sunglasses - sun glasses with a mirrored coating on the surface.

  • Glacier Glasses - sunglasses with leather blinders at the sides that protect the eyes by blocking the sun's rays around the edges of the lenses.
  • Gradient Lens sun glasses - with gradient lens which is darker at the top of the lens then fades to lighter at the bottom of the lens - more protection from sunlight the higher you look on the lens.
  • Fit Overs and Clip Ons sunglasses - are sun glasses that are worn over regular prescription glasses and are generally a wrap around style.
  • Oversized sunglasses - are purely a womens fashion sun glasses ( not much light can get in but most of them don't offer much in way of eye protection).
  • Rimless sunglasses - are lightweight and comfortable sun glasses most commonly used for sports.
  • Wrap around sunglasses - are the best sun glasses to wear, they prevent damaging UV rays from getting in through the sides, top and bottom of them.
