An eye exam is a number of eye tests performed by an optometrist (optician), ophthalmologist, or orthoptist assessing vision and ability to focus on and discern objects.
All people should have periodic eyesight test as part of routine primary care because many eye diseases are asymptomatic.

- potentially treatable blinding eye diseases
- ocular manifestations of systemic disease
- signs of tumours or other anomalies of the brain
